Re: TTC won't arm constables" article, July 9.

I am under the necessity to bring your kind attention to TTC spokesman Brad Ross' statement about TTC constables. He says "People think they're just security guards but that is not true." I am surprised that a spokesperson of such a large government institution like TTC underestimates the function of Security Guards and rather educating the public endorses their ill informed view about Security Guards by stating that they aren't just security guards. The security profession, including police, have different levels of responsibilities and accordingly they are they are armed. I would like to bring to Brad Ross and your kind attention that at various levels and locations, the security guards are also armed and also several of them have also served in police and military. They are also trained and experienced at different levels and face risk to their lives.

When I say this, I do not mean that I point out the need for arming security guards at all levels of security.

Further, for a ready evidence in support of my views and in the interst of educating the public in the right perspective about the function of security guards and not just security guards, I wish to draw your attention to a job posting in your own newspaper on the same date (July 9, 2008), on page 24, "Your Classifieds" under the category "Career Training", high risk security operative with an offer of up to 220K/year are required by a security company.

I am sending copy of this letter to the relevent officers in the Security company where I work as security guard.
