BRIEFS

Fall lineup brings women together at centre

A new season of girl power, sisterhood and self-esteem is about to launch at the Scarborough Women's Centre.

The centre's workshop series covers topics from tapping into creativity, understanding health matters and dealing with debt to overcoming anger.

The first workshop in the fall schedule is slated for Sept. 23. Entitled Reinvent Your Life, the workshop will lead participants toward a new way of thinking that will challenge long-standing self-concepts and how to use the power of intuition to reach financial, creative and spiritual goals.

Led by author and dream expert Darlene Montgomery, the session will take place at the centre at 2100 Ellesmere Rd., Suite 245, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $5.

Pre-registration is required and subsidies are also available for women of limited income.

For more information on this and the rest of the series visit www.scarboroughwomenscentre.ca or call 416-439-7111.

Ten roles up for grabs in Medina production

Actors looking to improve their craft and extend their resume can do so at an audition for the Medina Theatre Ensemble.

The group is preparing to stage a reading performance in honour of Holocaust Remembrance Week.

Written by Marion Andrew and directed by Mario D'Alimonte, The Sand requires six male roles and four female roles. The auditions take place on Wednesday, Sept. 17 and Thursday, Sept. 18 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Temple Sinai Congregation, 210 Wilson Ave.

Those interested in auditioning must register to secure a spot by calling Roselle at 416-633-2057 or Morris at 416-785-0344.

Youth Talent Show at Woodside Square

Woodside Square Shopping Centre hosts its first annual Talent Show on Saturday, Aug. 30.

The event will feature young performers between the ages four to 12, with competition in a number of age categories.

Local youngsters auditioned earlier this summer for the chance to display their talents in the Primary Category (ages four to six); the Junior Category (ages seven to nine) and the Intermediate Category (ages 10 to 12) at this Saturday's show.

One child in each category will have a chance to win a $200 educational savings bond, and every contestant will receive a small gift courtesy of Woodside Square.

The Talent Show will take place from noon to 3 p.m. at the centre court in Woodside Square.

The shopping centre is located at 1571 Sandhurst Circle, in the McCowan Road and Finch Avenue area.
