How many people can say they've appeared on the Today Show not once, but twice?

Count Lisa J. Lennox as one of the few.

Lennox, an Etobicoke resident, spoke with The Guardian just moments after a Today Show performance last week, which kicked off The Doodlebops Live North American tour that stops in Toronto later this month.

Twenty-three year old Lennox, in pink and purple from head to toe, plays DeeDee Doodle, passionate about the piano and mad for magic tricks.

"I always knew I loved to sing and dance," said Lennox. "I loved that I could make a career out of it."

This role, it would seem, is the perfect marriage for both of Lennox's talents, although no one knows where this gift came from. It's certainly not genetic.

"My mom can't even sing Happy Birthday," she said, but her brother is an artist, she added.

Regardless, she has been performing since the age of three and would go on to graduate from the Etobicoke School of the Arts. She earned a degree in musical theatre from Sheridan College. Before the role of DeeDee came along, Lennox performed at the Gemini Awards and had a bit part in the television series Road to Avonlea.

She auditioned for the Doodle role with 700 other hopefuls.

"It was an invited call," Lennox recalled.

She calls the role a dream come true, one that is taking her on an eight-month tour of 70 cities and for the first time, she and her counterparts Rooney and Moe Doodle are hitting Toronto from Oct. 19 to 21.

"We'll be home for a week. It'll be cool," she said of the group of fellow Canadians.

Straight from their hit TV show on Kids' CBC, the Doodles are getting on the bus, and will sing and dance in an interactive concert experience that will have kids and their parents "rockin' and boppin'" together. Tickets are on sale for only five performances in Toronto at The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.

"We're kind of like the Monkees," Lennox said. "But for kids."

With zany antics and overwhelming enthusiasm, this colourful and creative group entertains young fans with their unique mixture of music, dance and comedy while focusing on social themes in a way that their preschooler audiences can relate.

Ticket prices are $70 (VIP), $55 (Orchestra VIP), $45, $35 and $25.

Showtimes are 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. except Oct. 20, which are 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. and Oct. 21 at 4:30 p.m. Call 416-872-2262.
